Last evening’s launch of GILT CITY Atlanta at the beautiful MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) was simply refreshing. The atmosphere alone inspired me to want to go home and throw a splash of paint on something for no reason at all. The museum is located in the arts corridor of Midtown and provides the perfect backdrop for social gatherings.
The alluring edifice crawled with ATLiens who turned up to see what the GILT CITY buzz was all about. Notables such as Celebrity Chef Bren Herrera and Dancing With the Stars contestant Katerina Smirnov were dazzling as they mingled with guests and sampled edibles that were strategically displayed around the venue.
The private launch featured music by DJ Vickie Powell who caused a wave of excitement when she spun the 1977 classic “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. It was definitely a lovely day for GILT CITY. Grey Goose sponsored the signature cocktails and Sun In My Belly catered the delicious southern-style cuisine to include jumbo grilled shrimp, baked macaroni and cheese, buttermilk biscuits and mini pastries. King of Pops provided icy treats and guests were quite surprised when servers passed around Moon Pies which instantly prompted conversations of the good old days.
Caren West Public Relations did an excellent job of fusing art, culture and southern hospitality all in a vibrant space that is sure to play host to lavish celebrations and art exhibitions for years to come. Oh, and I want to thank GILT CITY for my canvas tote complete with peach preserves, a classic bottle of Coke, an autographed Braves baseball and a signature GILT CITY postcard. You guys are awesome!!

Jeffrey Fashion Cares Atlanta is pleased to announce that Dennis Dean, the creative force behind one of Atlanta’s top catering and events companies, as the Honorary Chair for the 19th annual fashion show and charity event. Once again benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate and the Atlanta AIDS Fund (AAF), Jeffrey Fashion Cares Atlanta will be hosted by acclaimed retailer Jeffrey Kalinsky and held on Monday, August 29 beginning at 7 p.m. in a stunning high-rise in the 12th & Midtown development located at Peachtree and 12th Street.
Fashion Cares Co-Chair, Lila Hertz says, “We are thrilled to present Dennis Dean with this honor. Over the years, he has given to Fashion Cares generously and graciously! He was our unanimous choice!”
Dennis Dean, the president and CEO of Dennis Dean: A Catering Company, developed his love of food as a young boy in his grandmother’s kitchen in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He spent his summers on the family farm, learning how produce, meats and grains were cultivated and harvested. Dean developed a deep-seated respect for the earth and everything it yields, and learned that there is no greater reward at the end of a hard day’s work than sitting around the dinner table with family and friends enjoying the very fruits of one’s labor. Today, it’s the driving force behind his company. Using only the finest ingredients, Dean’s culinary team creates inspired dishes, artfully prepared for the enjoyment of family and friends in surroundings both elegant and casual. Through his creative vision and business acumen, Dean’s company has enjoyed tremendous growth and success during one of the worst economic downturns of the century. Opening his doors in 2001 in the aftermath of 9/11, Dean’s drive and determination mirrored that of a nation determined to succeed. A decade later, Dennis Dean boasts a client list of Atlanta’s top corporate, retail, social and non-profit entities. Dean is frequently called upon for entertaining segments on local news and morning shows and is often quoted in business and social publications on catering and hospitality industry trends. And while his company has enjoyed solid and steady annual growth, Dean is adamant about quality over quantity. “I don’t want to be the biggest, just the best,” he maintains. And it’s that very philosophy that has allowed Dean to maintain a reputation for culinary excellence. Not only has Dean earned a stellar reputation within the culinary community, but he has also become well known for the causes he supports. In addition to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Atlanta AIDS Fund, Dean has donated in excess of $500,000 over the past decade to various organizations that assist women, children and animals in need.
The 19th annual Jeffrey Fashion Cares Atlanta previously announced Jason Wu as its special guest designer and will once again be co-chaired by
Lila Hertz, Louise Sams, and Jeffrey McQuithy. Over the past 18 years, Jeffrey Fashion Cares has grown into one of the largest combined AIDS and breast cancer benefits in the country, having raised approximately $9 million. Last year, 93 cents of every dollar raised went directly to the beneficiaries, Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate and the Atlanta AIDS Fund (AAF). This year, a small donation will also be made to the Medical University of South Carolina’s Inflammation and Fibrosis Research Center of Excellence.
The annual event includes a pre-show reception, fashion show, silent auction, and after party. For more information on Jeffrey Fashion Cares Atlanta, including patron and corporate sponsorship opportunities, please visit http://www.jeffreyfashioncares.com/ or call 404.420.2997.
