From The Desk of Tyrese Gibson….

Brace yourself and EXPECT the unexpected from your man, Tyrese, as he gives you EXCLUSIVE photos and the story behind the scenes from the set of his HOT and STEAMY video, “Nothing On You”, featuring his beautiful leading lady, Chilli, of the famed R&B super-group, TLC.  With a story line that paints a vivid picture of love and of a man assuring his woman there is no one else for him, there couldn’t have been a more perfectly appropriate premiere date for the video than Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012.

Not to worry, these photos, the inside scoop from Tyrese and Chilli, and the video trailer will tide you over until then…

“Sexy, smart, classy, grace and integrity doesn’t come easy all in one woman these days. When Chilli agreed to do my “Nothing On You” video, I just knew it would be special. The wait is over – on Valentines Day, through this song and video we’re gonna remind you of what grown and sexy love is all about.” – Tyrese

“Working with Tyrese, didn’t feel like work at all. There was so much chemistry between us, everything flowed naturally. HIGH Note: A Melodic Moment With AnthonyQ

He was the youngest chosen to be in Diddy’s “Making The Band 4” for three seasons of the popular MTV show. Day26 became “the band” and emerged as an all male group garnering much success atop the Billboard charts. Following his departure from the hit R&B group, Que has made impressive strides while moving on to a blossoming solo career and boasting a new TV show. The crooner is all grown up and goes by his new alias, AnthonyQ…quite confidently. We recently caught up with Mr. Q in Atlanta at the release party for his new single, “Melody”. He enlightened us on what lies ahead in his future and shows us that this is only the beginning for one of entertainment’s rising front men.

AOM: We are here with AnthonyQ celebrating the release of his new single, “Melody”. How are you doing Q?

Que: I’m chilling. I’m having a lot of fun.

AOM: I’m loving the outfit. Who are you wearing?

Que: This is Ruckage. They have been styling me lately. They styled me for my last photo shoot. They had a really dope jacket so I was like ‘Yo I gotta rock this up again’.

AOM: I really enjoyed your last mix tape, Guitar Her. My favorite song on the project was the song “Hair”.

Que: “Hair”? (Laughs)

AOM: So what was your favorite song on Guitar Her?

Que: My favorite songs on Guitar Her are “Medicine” and “Free Falling”.

AOM: I loved the video for “Medicine”. It was very nice.

Que:  Thank you.

AOM: Let’s talk about “Melody”. Where are you taking us with this single?

Que:  Basically the concept of “Melody” has like a double meaning. The melody represents the woman so you think I’m talking about my woman. Then when it gets to the hook and I’m like “Well I’m talking about my Melody” so it has like a double meaning. Of course the melody represents the woman but it’s ‘my melody’.

AOM: Right. It’s like love can be your melody in the song as well.

Que: Exactly.

AOM: What’s next for Anthony Q? What can we look forward to?

Que: Right now I’m pushing my two singles, “See Me” and “Melody” available on iTunes. Besides that, I’m working on my album. I also have a new TV show that I’m working on. It’s a dance show called “Rhythm Nation” which will take place in L.A. But I’m mostly focused on getting the music out right now.

AOM: Well, we definitely enjoy your music at Aspire Online Media and The HIGH UP and are looking forward to seeing you hit the stage tonight.

Que: Yes. I’m about to perform “Melody”. Thank you.

Following the interview, “Que” serenaded the ladies with his melodic and captivating voice while performing his hit singles, “Medicine” and “Melody” at his release party on Sunday, January 22nd at Josephine Lounge in Atlanta. With his humble spirit and incomparable talent, there is no denying that AnthonyQ will continue to bless our ears for years to come. Follow him @Que_thafuture!

HIGH Buzz: Common Feuds With Drake

What would Hip-Hop be without an entertaining feud every now and again? Drake can now say that he has contributed to the “classic” form of entertainment. Surprisingly, a hip-hop legend in his own right, Common has decided to take a jab at the Canadian superstar on the remix of “Stay Schemin” which is a track off of Rick Ross’s newest mixtape. Common began the feud with Drake when using antagonistic lyrics on “Sweet”, a track off of his newest release, “The Dreamer/The Believer”. Common goes head on with a vivid description of the rapper in the remix calling Drake an Amateur Guy and Canada dry. He ended his verse by stating, “Make no mistake, I’m talking to Drake. This is the remix.” There’s no clarity on why Common is attacking the Young Money superstar, but one thing’s for certain, it’s bound to get interesting.  Listen to the “Stay Schemin” Remix by Rick Ross ft. Drake, Common, and French Montana below.

Tweet Talk: Do you think Common is being too harsh or do you think this whooping is for Drake’s own good?

HIGH Note: Amber Rose Sings About Fame!

Amber Rose is showing the world that there is more to her than a romantic story for the tabloids. Not only is she a model, it seems that she has talents that we were unaware of. Well Amber is ensuring that we know them all by debuting her first single, “Fame” featuring her current love interest Wiz Khalifa. In the song “Fame”, she speaks about the sudden effects of stardom.  This song is reminiscent of a softer version of “Barbie Girl” performed by one hit wonder, Aqua. Singing over a sunny track produced by Grand Staff producers KQuick and Fresh 2 Def, Rose attempts to showcase her soft vocals in a playful manner. The hook states, “Now You’re ready for the fame”.  Whether you agree that Amber Rose is ready for musical stardom or not, Khalifa does.  Wiz Khalifa posted a link to the new track on Twitter Tuesday with the caption, “Now You’re Ready.”  Listen to her debut single, “Fame” below.  Is Amber Rose ready for this side of fame?  Let us know your thoughts!

HIGH Praise: Jay-Z Dedicates Song To Blue Ivy Carter

Blue Ivy is “daddy’s little girl” and Jay-Z is proud to tell the world. On Monday, January 9th, Hov released a new song titled “Glory” ft. B.I.C (Blue Ivy Carter) to pay tribute to his daughter. Over a somber track, the song attests to a father’s love for his daughter stating,

“The most amazing feeling I feel/ Words can’t describe what a feeling, for real/ Baby I’ll paint the sky blue/ My greatest creation was you.”

The proud father continues by letting the world know that Part Two is here.

“I wreak havoc on the world, get ready for part two, a younger smarter faster me, so a pinch of Hov, a whole glass of Bey. Glory.” He continues by stating, “You’re a child of destiny. You’re the child of my destiny. You’re my child with the child from Destiny’s Child. That’s a hell of a recipe.”

That is definitely quite a hell of a recipe and because of this, Blue Ivy has been in the media ever since her birth this past Saturday. With this baby’s destiny bound for the spotlight, we will be sure to see her follow in her parents’ footsteps. Hov gave us a glimpse of the future by debuting his little girl at the end of the song. Listen closely and you can hear the little Ivy making precious baby noises and crying as the song concludes.  Listen to the song, “Glory” below and let us know your take on this heartfelt tribute.

WEEKLY HIGH: A Dose Of Entertainment

It seems like this past week in entertainment was the season to be jolly, get engaged, release new music, and announce the album queen of the year!

Two days after Christmas, B.O.B served us up with a late Christmas gift with his second single, “Play the Guitar” featuring Andre 3000. Before listening to the song, you already have an ounce of excitement knowing that your ears will be graced with the voice of hip-hop veteran Andre 3000. As soon as the beat starts your involuntary head bob begins. There’s no miss with this song. B.O.B has taken his craft to the next level. This song shows us that he has truly found his sound, perfectly mixing the Hip-Hop ingredients with rock spices. Andre 3000 puts the icing on the cake and takes it home for their listeners. Take a listen below and let us know what you think.

Tis’ the perfect season to pop the question! John Legend was elated to hear the answer, “Yes” from model Chrissy Teigen.  “The lovely couple got engaged over the holidays while vacationing in the Maldives,” the R&B singer’s rep, Cindi Berger confirmed to People Magazine. It’s always refreshing to see the love of two people grow into a beautiful commitment such as marriage. I am looking forward to seeing the wedding photos in the near future. The High Up and Aspire Online Media family congratulate the couple on their engagement.

It is no surprise who the crowned queen of 2011 music is. Adele conquered music in 2011 with her album “21”. In every artist’s career, they dread the possibility of a sophomore slump. Released in February, Adele’s album defied those odds and soared into iconic horizons. In barely 11 months, she has sold more than any artist in the world, currently stepping into 13 million albums sold worldwide. Her songs express the stories of a heart that had been broken accompanied by a rare and authentic voice and delivery. She is truly one of a kind. Although she has experienced trials with her voice throughout the year, forcing her at times to cancel shows and tours, she has still managed to take the number one slot effortlessly. With no hesitation, I can say that she will be here for years to come. We can only hope that she has a successful recovery that will keep her where she belongs – on stage and in our hearts.

With the New Year upon us full throttle, we are curious to see how HIGH entertainment and music will take us in the coming months. Keep it plugged for more entertainment and music news right here at The HIGH UP.

Flashback High: 2011 In Review

From the numerous baby announcements to the birth of iconic music, we can all agree that there hasn’t been a dull moment in the world of entertainment in 2011. Before we leap into the exciting possibilities of the New Year, it is best that we reflect on the priceless memories we’ve left in the previous year. Below are my top most memorable moments of 2011:

 1.    The Baby Bump Heard Around The World

There are a few moments in Pop Culture history where you can remember the exact thing you were doing. The second Beyonce revealed her baby bump on the MTV awards during her “Love on Top” performance, I knew that this would qualify as one of those moments. I remember sitting in front of my laptop trying to pick up the online live feed to capture the awards since I was having cable trouble at the time. Thankfully, it decided to work at that very moment. Twitter was flooded with comments and on the verge of crashing down the popular social platform. This was the baby bump heard around the world. I believe in 2012, we will be fighting for a chance to see the arrival of the precious new born of the power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z. In 2011 we also witnessed baby announcements from Jessica Simpson and Hilary Duff who are both expecting their babies to arrive any day now.

2. The Unveiling of “Dem Babies”

This year was the year of the baby. After keeping us on our toes for six months, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey revealed their twins, Morracon and Monroe in class with Barber Walters on “20/20”. Watch this momentous occasion below. Other couples to bring children into the world in 2011 were Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz and Pink and husband Carey Hart to name a few.

3. Occupy The World

We witnessed a movement in 2011 that demanded attention. The “Occupy” movement showed the frustrations of the working class around the United States and the world. Troubled with the knowledge that the middle class and poor were suffering so that the rich could maintain their wealth pushed many to take action. I had the pleasure of witnessing this movement first hand in Occupy Atlanta. As the knowledge of this movement grew, celebrities showed up to the various sites across the country to show support. Below are a couple of photos captured of Occupy Wall Street supporters.

4. Music Takes A Turn For The Better

There is no denying that music foreshadowed a shift during the year of 2011. It looks like we are on the road to pure emotion, in depth lyrics and storytelling, and creative instrumentation. We were given a hint when the amazing jazz vocalist and bassist, Esperanza Spalding won Best New Artist during this year’s Grammy ceremonies. Considered an independent artist, this was the least expected choice but the most deserving. Not as much of a shocker but equally deserved, Adele landed the highest selling album in the U.S of the year with her sophomore release, “21”. A masterpiece to say the least with vulnerable vocals and emotion throughout the album and instrumentation that vibrated through the soul. If this is any hint of what may seep into the New Year, the sound waves will truly be music to my ears.

Looking back on all the moments that we’ve witnessed in 2011, there are too many to list on one page. I am thankful that we were able to witness these moments to be able to one-day say, “ I remember when…” As the clock struck twelve and 2011 became a thing of the past, we are now able to take what we’ve learned and experienced with us so that the best days of our past can be the lowest we see in the future. Happy New Year to you and yours from the Aspire Online Media family!

WHAT’S NEW: Boyz II Men Are Back and All Grown Up

Shawn Stockman was only 18 when he and his fellow band members, Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, and Wanya Morris released “Cooleyhighharmony” in February 1991 via Motown. Their debut and sophomore release, “II” sold a combined 15.6 million copies. The first album’s hit single, “End of the Road,” set a record for longest run atop the Billboard Hot 100 with a 13-week stay in 1992 and “I’ll Make Love to You” topped that with 14 weeks at No. 1. They eventually beat their record again, alongside Mariah Carey with the duet, “One Sweet Day,” staying atop the charts for 16 weeks.

Two decades later, the Boyz are now mature men. spoke to Stockman, now 39 about how’s he changed since his success with Boyz II Men. “Well, I can make love better.” As for the music he continued, “Now, being grown men and having relationships and children, the songs take on a deeper meaning and add something that we wouldn’t have been able to understand if we didn’t experience them.”

That prevalent growth defines “Twenty”, the group’s first U.S. release of new material since 2002. Due Oct. 24th via the act’s own imprint MSM Music Group, and in association with Benchmark, “Twenty” offers the group’s faithful fans a fresh batch of soul, including their first sing “More Than You’ll Ever Know”, which has already sold 15,000 copies.

The act has scored numerous opportunities including a deal with Wal-Mart. The big-box retailer will exclusively feature the physical album, which will be distributed through the Orchard. “Wal-Mart’s got millions of people walking through their stores, and what they’re going to do for us visibility-wise is a huge part of our campaign,” their manager, Marc Offenbach explained.

We are looking forward to seeing more from this legendary group. Listen to their first single, “More Than You’ll Ever Know”.

WHAT’S NEW: T-Pain Sets December Release For New Album

On this past Thursday, R&B artist T-Pain announced that his upcoming album, “rEVOLVEr” will be released on December 6th just in time to fit right under the  Christmas tree. “rEVOLVEr “ , the fourth release from the rapper/singer, will include the platinum-selling “ Best Love Song” featuring Chris Brown, and his current single “5 O’clock”, featuring Lily Allen and Wiz Khalifa. Known for his heavy use of auto-tune, T-Pain has vowed that he would stay away from his trademark on this upcoming album. I am not sure if we can remember a song that the rapper/singer has not used with the notable voice effect. I am interested to see the star’s approach his new album.  T-Pain is currently on the road  supporting Chris Brown on his “’F.A.M.E.” tour until November. We will keep you updated on  T-Pain and his upcoming  project.

NEW GROOVES: Coldplay’s “Paradise” Video

We all have dreamt of reaching paradise. In Coldplay’s second video, “Paradise” off their upcoming album, “Mylo Xyloto”, it shows the voyage of an elephant on his journey to that desired place. The visual goes perfectly with the lyrics of this song. The video begins with the elephant stuck in the zoo or in captivity longing for something better. The elephant then escapes the place that’s holding it down and starts his journey to finding something better. He eventually finds that place and lives out a dream. The video seems metaphorical for the Coldplay’s journey to their dreams or “Paradise”. This video is a true symbolism of the ability to reach your goals and shows you that no matter what is holding you captive, you can escape it and reach a place of freedom. Watch Coldplay’s new video “Paradise” below.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye: T.I. Is Back In Full Effect

T.I. has been busy since his release from incarceration. He has returned with the new release, “ Hear Ye, Hear Ye” with the Neptune, Pharell. The music is reminiscent of  a classic hip-hop song from the 90’s.  The song is also an addition to numerous songs surfacing featuring the King of the South. T.I isn’t only providing us with long awaited music. Along with releasing seamless music, the Rubberband Man is now an author with his first novel, “Power and Beauty: A Love Story of Life on the Streets”, which is set to released this week. The King of the South spoke more about  his book to Rolling Stone:

“I am a fan of [Sistah Souljah’s] The Coldest Winter Ever and Midnight. I read them when I was locked up the first time. It made me look for other books to entertain and stimulate my mind in the same way and I couldn’t find one so I saw a void.”

A novelist was not a role that many thought to see T.I add to his resume. He continued to talk to Rolling Stone about potential titles for his now untitled 8th studio album. “The first of two album titles I’m debating is ‘Kill the King’ because in all that I’ve gone through I’ve observed how people respond to my circumstances, and I always wonder ‘Why y’all coming at me like this?’ But I thought, ‘How do you expect them to act?’” He goes on to explain, “Life is a game of chess and the object is to kill the king. If you anoint yourself king, you have made yourself a target. The second one is self-explanatory -‘ Trouble’.”

After promoting his book in New York on shows such as ‘The View” and “Howard Stern” on October 18th, he ended the day by debuting his new song, “Hear Ye, Hear Ye” on Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex Show. Pharell, producer and featured artist on the track, assisted with premiering the song by calling in.

It looks like T.I is reaching the end of his road to redemption. Listen to T.I’s song, “Hear Ye, Hear Ye” featuring Pharell Williams below.

NEW GROOVES: Rihanna’s “We Found Love” Video

Rihanna’s long awaited video to the first single of her upcoming album “Talk that Talk” premiered October 18th. The “We Found Love” video stars British boxer/model Dudley O’ Shaughnessy who, in the video, has a strong resemblance to her infamous ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. The video starts off with Rihanna stating, “”It’s like you’re screaming but no one can hear. You almost feel ashamed that someone could that be that important, that without them you feel like nothing. No one will ever understand how much it hurts. You feel hopeless like nothing can save you. And when it’s over and it’s gone, you almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back so you could have the good.”

The video continues to show a couple that is engulfed in an addictive love that brings fulfillment and destruction at the same time. While watching the video, I was curious to see if all the visuals and introduction was a subliminal message regarding Rihanna’s feelings toward her past relationship with the R&B superstar. Although it is impossible to not raise this question, there is no denying the quality and intriguing nature of this video. Watch Rihanna’s “We Found Love” video below and look out for her new album, “Talk the Talk”, set for release on November 21st.

NEW GROOVES: Justin Bieber Premieres “Mistletoe” Video

The video was directed by Roman White and was shot in Franklin, Tennessee. “Mistletoe” is the first single off of  his upcoming holiday release, “Under the Mistletoe”. While Justin enjoys a winter in wonderland with his love interest, another girl seems to be trying to get his attention. Naturally, she gets jealous  and finds herself wallowing over her thoughts in her room until she receives a card from Justin that invites her under the mistletoe. In the end, she finds out that the girl she assumed was trying to steal her Justin away was only trying to find the perfect gift for her own special someone. I’m pretty sure while watching this video many of Justin’s devoted fans will be envisioning him with them under the mistletoe. MATCH UP: Coldplay and Rihanna Princess Of China Collaboration

A new release from the British rock band, Coldplay and the Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna leaked yesterday, called “Princess of China”. The classic “breakup” song is provided by this unique collaboration including lyrics from Chris Martin that reminisces on the loss of a love and the couple’s joyous times together. Although the lyrics may take you to that somber place, the array of synthesizers and background vocal arrangements make you feel as if you are traveling back in time or free falling from a cliff. This is a key element to Coldplay’s music in which I highly appreciate. Rihanna adds her commercial and edgy mix that takes the song to a place of familiarity and new territories all at the same time, while reminding the remorseful lover what he could’ve had in her portion of the song. The Coldplay-Rihanna collaboration will appear on the band’s upcoming fifth album release, “Mylo Xyloto”. Listen below.

‘Tis The Season For Justin Bieber

‘ Tis the season to have Bieber fever! As the Christmas Season approaches, Justin Bieber unwraps his first single off of his upcoming holiday album “Under the Mistletoe”.  During his appearance on the Ryan Seacrest Morning Show on yesterday (Oct. 17th), Justin dropped the first single “Mistletoe”, a rhythmic island swing that closely resembles Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”.

“I got a lot of different genres on there, so I think it works for everybody” Bieb excitedly expressed to Seacrest during his early morning interview. The album is set to be released on November 1st 2011, which features special guest appearances by some of Bieber’s influential artists; Boyz II Men, Usher, the Band Perry and Mariah Carey. “Even though it’s a Christmas album, it’s probably my best album yet”, states the young heart-throb.

On last Thursday, he teased his young audience by releasing a 30 second clip of his charming upcoming video for “Mistletoe”, which is set to be released at 7:45pm EST tonight on MTV.

Justin is said to be joining Lady Gaga and Pitbull, along side Ryan Seacrest at “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” on December 31st 2011.

NEW GROOVES: Beyonce’s Love On Top Video

Without allowing any anticipation, Beyonce has returned with a follow up video to her controversial “Countdown”. Paying homage to the legendary 1980’s group, New Edition, the “Love On Top” video scenes resemble those of the group’s “If It Isn’t Love” video dancing with five male back up singers with similar choreography. In this video, we got to witness a rare occasion of her performing in sneakers. A seamless performance piece, I am sure that we will hear nothing but praises from New Edition and viewers worldwide. NEW GROOVES: Hamilton Park’s Debut EP

It looks like R&B music is making a come back with Atlanta based group, Hamilton Park. With hiatus from groups such as Jagged Edge, we have been longing for an ensemble like Hamilton Park that delivers pure R&B and “baby making” music. Throughout the self-titled EP, I was taken back to the essence of the 90’s when R&B dominated the airwaves and not only was the music during that era enticing melodically, it was also accompanied by pure and raw emotion. Hamilton Park’s vocal ability and unique harmonies are the icing on the cake. Songs such as “Thing Called Us” which was released as a single earlier this year, is providing a declaration of change from a man only thinking of himself and being more considerate of the relationship as a whole, which any woman in a relationship would love to hear from her other half. The remake of Guy’s “Piece of My Love” was done with excellence by Hamilton Park, providing reminiscent moments in the song as well as intriguing changes that put an original spin on the classic. They topped off the refreshing release with the bonus track “Computer Lover”, which has become a favorite selection from the EP. We are looking forward to seeing more from this refreshing group, Hamilton Park. The self-titled EP is available now for download on iTunes.

NEW GROOVES: Evanescence Returns With Self-Titled Third Album

Evanescence does it again with their self-titled album released Tuesday October 11th.  This album provides a clean listen all the way through with the classic Evanescence sound. They never fail to miss a beat and every emotion is touched. I’ve never found a moment in their career that I have been left disappointed sonically and they continue that with this release.  A few songs that have stuck out to me on the album are “Erase This” which has an enticing melody and an energy that matches up with the theme and lyrics throughout. The somber sound of “Lost in Paradise” takes me to this place of meditation with the cello solo at the beginning as Amy Lee sings of desperation and wanting to love this person. I also enjoy the concept of “Oceans” as Amy asks the subject to “cross the ocean in my mind”. Overall this album is a must listen. EVENESCENCE is available now on iTunes and in stores nation wide.

WHAT’S NEW: The Weeknd Remixes Lady Gaga

For her forthcoming release, “Born this Way The Remix”, Lady Gaga has reached out to alternative-R&B rising star, The Weeknd to contribute. With his Drake endorsement and rapidly growing fan base, it is not a surprise that Lady Gaga would incorporate the unique sounds of this budding star. A month ago the London based group,  Florence & the Machine, remixed their second “Ceremonials” single and “Shake It Out”, which was produced by The Weeknd. Being impressed with his work, Lady Gaga decided to  follow in their footsteps. With his eerie and mysterious sound combined with her untaming expression, I am interested to see how this combination concludes. This should keep the anticipating ears of The Weeknd fans busy while awaiting his official debut album release following two highly acclaimed mix tapes, “House of Balloons” and “Thursday”. We can only hope that the wait won’t be too much longer.

WHAT’S NEW: Beyonce Is Accused Of Plagiarism

It looks like someone is accusing Beyonce of plagiarism yet again. This time it isn’t for claiming to have written a song that she never even thought of before singing it. A week after releasing the video for her single “Countdown” Beyonce has attracted more than 1.6 Million viewers. She has also attracted plagiarism accusations for copied dance moves. Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker claims that Beyonce has crossed the line by copying her moves. In a recent statement, the choreographer adamantly defended herself:

“ This is plagiarism… This is stealing. What’s rude about it is that they don’t even bother about hiding it. They seem to think they could do it because it’s a famous work.”

A video appeared on YouTube the same day as the premier of “Countdown” showing the similarities in the choreography which has already accumulated over 255,000 views and is rapidly growing. On this subject, I thought it would be best to allow you, the reader, to be the judge. Do you see any similarities or parallels?

THU:   First, I definitely want to get into knowing more about your new mix tape.

THU:  Before you explain the mix tape, “Who’s Translee”, I would like you to tell our readers who Translee is. Where is Translee from?

TRANSLEE:    Well Translee is a young guy from Huntsville, AL. I do love my city. I moved to Atlanta back in ‘09 to pursue the dream of music. Chris Hunter and I came and met Mr. Collipark and he’s been working with us and molding us. I actually went to College first. I graduated from the University of Alabama.

THU:    Really? What did you major in?

TRANSLEE:    Marketing and now I get to market myself everyday. It kind of goes hand in hand. I moved here in 2009 and I interned with Mr. Collipark when I first got here. I worked on the VIC project and that kind of just taught me how to get out here and really meet people and helped me to get into the groove of things. That was a good experience for me. Last year was when I actually started playing my music for him and he started taking a liking to it. Then we released the first mix tape “Know Translee” in April.

THU:    I loved it! Loved it!

TRANSLEE:    Thank you. Thank you. So it got really good response. I got calls from people from everywhere giving me feedback on the mix tape.

Translee’s Debut Mix-Tape “Know Translee”

THU:   I found it amazing when I posted on Twitter that I was at one of your shows and someone in New York replied and said, “I just read an article about him”.

TRANSLEE:   I’m trying to just grow. Everyday I’m trying to get to the people because there’s no label and nobody that can do anything for you if the people aren’t moving with you. I go after the people first. I try to put my music where people aren’t looking. Also trying to match the online branding with the street branding and balancing both. Really just building a strong fan base because once you have them, you have a strong foundation to build off of.

THU:   Do you remember that moment when you fell in love with music and Hip-Hop?

TRANSLEE:   Don’t laugh but Immature was like my favorite group when I was young. They were young dudes that talked about grown up stuff so I loved that about them. That is actually when I fell in love with music.

THU:   Well I used to love B2K. (laughs)

TRANSLEE:   That’s worse. That was during the boy band era.

THU:   Okay, so you liked what Immature did. So I don’t like to place artists in a box but if you were to be placed in a box with any artist, what box would you be placed in?

TRANSLEE:    Michael Jackson, Beattles. I’m going to the top.

THU:   I agree. In order to be at the top, you have to place yourself there.

TRANSLEE:   I’m not sure if any rapper has reached their heights, but the highest in Hip-Hop would be Jay-Z.  I don’t think you can get any higher than that.  Like he’s married to Beyonce. I would want to be in that box but the box that people really put me that I have nothing to do with is J. Cole, Big Sean, and sometimes Wiz Khalifa. I don’t think I really sound like him or talk about the same things, but I would definitely like to work with Big Sean in the future.

THU:   On “Know Translee”, what song did you think got the most response or touched people the most?

TRANSLEE:    Probably off of the first one,  “They Want More”. I feel that song touched people the most and “ 3L Theory”. I had people calling me saying they cried through the song or it got them through their day.

THU:   So you talked about collaborations. Earlier you spoke about wanting to do a collaboration with Big Sean. What other artists would you like to collaborate with? It doesn’t only have to be Hip-Hop.

TRANSLEE:   Right now probably the Weeknd. Actually on the new mix tape I actually remixed one of his songs. I really like the Weeknd. Kendrick Lamar is really dope. The Game, Kanye, and I listen to Adele too. I listen to Two Chainz too.

THU:    Tell us about this new project. “Who’s Translee”.

TRANSLEE:   “Who’s Translee” is the follow up to my first mix tape, “Know Translee” coming out October 10th. “Who’s Translee” is a growth from “Know Translee”. The rapping got better, the bars got better, and the production got better. Chris Hunter executive produced it and basically helped out with ideas and helped mold the project. He drove me to make the best song possible. As an artist you have to record what comes to you but he filters out the stuff that isn’t good. You need people like that around you.

Digital Native Culture CEO, Chris Hunter, Translee, and Producer Mr. Hanky

THU:   Yeah, I cant wait to listen to “Who’s Translee”. I know on the last project Todd Marshall was the main producer.

TRANSLEE:    Yes, he is on “Who’s Translee”. I used a few other producers as well. I did a few tracks with a dude named “Hunger” out of L.A. He actually produced “3L Theory” from the last project. Also Chris’s child hood friend did “Does Anybody Love” off of this project.  Definitely the base and the glue of the project was Todd Marshall. There are 23 songs on the project and he produced like 15 tracks. Also Cashflow is on the project as well.  I cant forget Mr. Hanky, Collipark’s in house producer who has two songs on the project. He produced “Walk around the Club”.  It’s crazy that this particular song has me mentioned in the October issue of XXL for being on the remix of “Walk Around the Song”. Just to be on a song that Lil Wayne endorses so much is like amazing to me.

THU:   Features?

TRANSLEE:   I have Gorilla Zoe and Stuey Rock who is actually on the bonus track, “ Calling My Phone”. I have Eddy Fontane, Solace, and Truth Turner who is from my hometown, Huntsville, AL. I have mostly singers on this mix tape. Also Earthtone assisted with the harmonies on my songs. She is amazing at that. I have a lot of singing on this project.

THU:   So its like Hip-Hop mixed with R&B sound.

TRANSLEE:   Yes. It has like an R&B feel. I actually took off one song because it was becoming a little too R&B. I think it’s a good mix. I’m a laid back person so it’s a real good balance. IF you liked “Know Translee”, it’s not the same but it’s a progression.

THU:   So where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

TRANSLEE:    Hopefully still doing music. If successful, which I don’t see it any other way, just growing and hopefully rapping about being rich and not what I’m rapping about now because I like to talk about my current truths. Hopefully, I’m working with big people and being able to be in a situation where I can put other people on which will be my family first.

THU:    If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

TRANSLEE:    Dope, Positive, and Energetic

THU:    If you could give advice to someone who’s chasing a dream or trying to be in the position you are in, what would you say to that person?

TRANSLEE:   Give your whole self to it. If you have a job and it is interfering with your dream and you won’t leave it because you are afraid this music thing won’t work, this is not for you. Also, get to the people. Connect with the people. Don’t put yourself above the people. You have to be able to relate to the people. *

In closing, we are quite sure that as time passes, Translee’s star will soar further than even he can imagine. While you follow his journey with us, I’m sure with each song and each project you will get your answer to the question,  “Who’s Tranlsee”. We can only hope that we got you closer to that destination. While in route, go ahead and download Translee’s new mix tape, “Who’s Translee” at . Special thanks to Translee, Chris Hunter, Mr. Hanky, Digital Native Culture, and Collipark Studios.

WHAT’S NEW: Frank Ocean Announces Debut Solo Tour

The rising R&B star, Frank Ocean has announced that he will be hitting the stage solo for three coast-to-coast dates in November following a tour with his group, “Odd Future”.  I wouldn’t necessarily call three dates a tour, but this is a milestone for the artist as his first stream of shows without his infamous collective. I have been following this artist since I became entranced by his “Nostalgia, Ultra” mix tape and am curious to see what he has to offer on stage. If it is anything like his music, it should leave me wanting more.

Frank Ocean November Tour Dates:

Nov. 5: New Orleans, LA @ House of Blues

Nov. 6: New York, NY @ Bowery Ballroom

Nov. 15: Los Angeles, CA @ El Rey Theater
